It\u2019s just you, the playwright\u2019s words, and your desperate attempts to commit them to memory. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Memorizing lines can be one of the most frustrating parts of acting. Unfortunately, it\u2019s also one of the most crucial parts. So what\u2019s a person to do when you’re in a show or have a casting call or audition?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do actors remember their lines? Well, luckily, there are plenty of ways to make the whole memorizing process easier. Here are a few tried and true methods that professional actors use\u2014and that you can, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Use a Mnemonic Device to Memorize Lines Quickly<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One easy way to memorize lines fast is to take a section of script and write down the first letter of each word. For example, let\u2019s say you\u2019re memorizing the famous line: \u201cTo be or not to be, that is the question.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019d write down the letters like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cT b o n t b, t i t q.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Try saying the line while looking at the letters you\u2019ve written out. Here’s a good video<\/a> that demonstrates this method. Once you feel confident, say it again without looking. Soon you\u2019ll have the whole soliloquy down pat!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
