The beginning of the End of Hygiene Poverty.

In Kind Direct and The Hygiene Bank are joining forces to end hygiene poverty by 2030. This is the beginning of the end of hygiene poverty.
1. Tell us your story
Real change starts with your story. When people understand what hygiene poverty really feels like, they can no longer ignore it.
By sharing your experience, you help bring the data to life and show why action is urgent. Your voice will help us in our mission for lasting change – ending hygiene poverty for good.
We may therefore share stories and media through our communications – such as our website, social media, Google Ads, presentations, reports, newsletters, flyers, adverts, posters and news releases – and with The Hygiene Bank and other supporter organisations for their internal and external communications.

2. Join us in our mission
8.7 million Brits have missed work and 1 in 10 children have missed school, simply because they couldn’t access everyday essentials like shampoo, toothpaste or period products to live clean and well.
This isn’t right. But together, we can change it.
Enter your details below to join our community. In Kind Direct and The Hygiene Bank will each share updates, inspiring stories, and ways you can take action from fundraising to spreading the word. (You can unsubscribe at any time).

Our partnership with The Hygiene Bank
We’re excited to be partnering with The Hygiene Bank as we share the same mission to end hygiene poverty by 2030.
Over the next 5 years we plan to create the first ever Roadmap to End Hygiene Poverty, built on evidence, lived experience, and a coalition of partners to deliver real, lasting change.
Together, with government, businesses and communities, we can make hygiene poverty a thing of the past.
The beginning of the end starts now. Join us!

Read our latest research
Our latest research highlights 1.1m children are currently living in hygiene poverty in Britain. That’s four children in every classroom. Our report, A Clean Start in Life, highlights that immediate action is needed.
Children and young people told us they wanted to see better access to hygiene essentials in their communities and more income for struggling families.
Our report also calls on the Government to use the upcoming Child Poverty Strategy to lift families out of poverty and secure a healthier, happier future for children by scrapping the two-child limit, abolishing the household benefit cap, and making sure schools and charities are resourced to meet immediate need.

A note from Michael and Ruth
“Hygiene poverty is the smoke before the fire. Before people go to a food bank, before they go hungry, they have often gone without many basics – toothpaste, shampoo, washing powder. No parent should have to send their child to school without brushing their teeth, and no-one should miss out on opportunities because they can’t afford soap or period products. This is a scandal that shouldn’t exist, and together with The Hygiene Bank, we are launching a campaign to end hygiene poverty for good.”
Micheal Gidney, CEO at In Kind Direct
“No one should be in hygiene poverty in the UK today. It undermines people’s health and holds back children and adults to reaching their potential. Every day, our volunteers see the impact on families who are forced to choose between eating and keeping clean. By joining forces with In Kind Direct, we are determined to shine a light on this hidden crisis and build the roadmap to end hygiene poverty once and for all. This is not an inevitable part of life in Britain – together, with government, businesses and communities, we can and must end it.”
Ruth Brock, CEO at The Hygiene Bank
